Somatic Experiencing® sessions online
When understanding what happened hasn’t changed how it lives in you
Somatic Experiencing® is a body-based approach to healing that works with the nervous system and the patterns shaped by our experiences. Developed by Dr. Peter Levine, it draws on the body’s innate capacity for healing, helping us move beyond intellectual understanding toward lasting shifts in how we feel, respond, and relate to the world.
Sessions online, with in-person intensives by arrangement.

What brings people here
You may recognize yourself in some of these experiences:
- You’ve done a lot of inner work, but something deeper still feels unresolved or out of reach.
- Old patterns continue to emerge, even when you understand where they come from.
- You find yourself anxious, overwhelmed, shut down, or disconnected from your body.
- You’re moving through grief, uncertainty, or a significant life transition.
- You long for deeper connection and intimacy, yet find yourself caught in familiar relational patterns.
- You’re seeking a greater sense of ease, purpose, and aliveness in how you experience yourself and the world.
Sometimes the work touches deeper wounds, including grief, experiences of abuse, addiction, illness, complex or developmental trauma, and attachment wounds rooted in our earliest relationships. Whatever you carry, we can meet it together with care, curiosity, and at a pace that honors your system.
And if you’re thinking, “I don’t really have trauma,” that’s okay too. You don’t need a label or a diagnosis to begin this work.

“When we feel safe enough, healing doesn’t have to be forced. Something in us already knows the way.”
Somatic Experiencing, a form of somatic therapy
Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented therapeutic approach that helps us work with trauma and its effects on the body and nervous system, while expanding our capacity to meet and hold more of life.
It was developed by Peter Levine, and is the gold standard for healing trauma.
It works from the bottom up, starting with how experience is held in your body and nervous system. Talk is part of it, and your story can be useful, but you don’t have to retell it, or even know it, for something to heal.
Over time, this work helps cultivate greater capacity and flexibility in the nervous system, allowing us to move through life’s challenges without becoming overwhelmed or shutting down, while expanding our capacity for connection and presence.
For many people, Somatic Experiencing® offers another dimension of healing, particularly when insight and understanding alone haven’t translated into lasting change.
What a session is like
Sessions are 60 minutes. We begin by getting to know each other, exploring what brings you here, and building a foundation of safety and trust. From there, the work unfolds collaboratively, guided by what emerges and the pace of your nervous system.
Together, we bring gentle awareness to sensations, emotions, and patterns in the body, including places that may feel numb, distant, or difficult to access. Rather than trying to change or override these responses, we approach them with curiosity and respect, recognizing the intelligence of the body’s protective adaptations.
As we build greater capacity for regulation, we can begin to approach experiences that have felt overwhelming or unresolved, working gradually with the nervous system’s responses rather than revisiting the full intensity of what happened. Through this process, the body may begin to complete interrupted protective responses, release patterns of held activation, and integrate experiences that have remained unresolved.
The work moves at a pace your system can accommodate, allowing greater flexibility, resilience, and choice to emerge. Sessions are available online, with in-person intensives by arrangement.
Other tools I may bring in
Somatic Experiencing is the heart of the work. Often, other tools also help:
- Breathwork, to deepen embodied awareness, support emotional processing, and access experiences beyond ordinary patterns of thought.
- Parts work, to explore the different aspects of ourselves, including protective patterns and inner conflicts, fostering greater understanding, compassion, and internal integration.
- Meditation, to cultivate presence, awareness, and a more spacious relationship with our inner experience.
- Touch work, when meeting in person, to support regulation, boundaries, and the integration of early developmental experiences, always with your consent.

What changes, and how long it takes
There’s no prescribed number of sessions or fixed timeline for this work. Some people come weekly, others less frequently, depending on their needs and what we’re exploring together.
Over time, people may notice greater flexibility in how they respond to stress and challenges, a deeper sense of safety and connection, and more capacity for joy, intimacy, and aliveness.
The shifts can be profound, often reaching far beyond what initially brought someone to this work. And sometimes the work continues not because something is wrong, but because life keeps opening up.

Who you’d be working with
I’m Brandt Miller, a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) whose approach integrates somatic healing, relational work, and an understanding of the personal, ancestral, and collective dimensions of trauma.
Alongside my training in Somatic Experiencing®, I’ve spent five years studying and facilitating trauma integration with Thomas Hübl, as well as completing advanced breathwork training with David Elliott. My background as a writer and documentary producer also informs my understanding of the stories we carry, and the relationship between what we understand intellectually and what we experience in the body.
I approach this work with curiosity, presence, and a deep respect for the intelligence of the nervous system. I believe healing is not simply about resolving what has been painful, but about creating the conditions for greater wholeness, freedom, and access to our essential nature.

Questions people ask
Can Somatic Experiencing be done online?
Yes, we work by Zoom. If you’d rather meet in person, I also offer in-person intensives by arrangement.
Is this therapy?
Somatic Experiencing is a form of somatic therapy. Sessions aren’t a substitute for medical or mental-health care, or for emergency support. If you’re in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the US), or call your local emergency number.
Do I need to have trauma, or know what happened?
No. You don’t need a label, and you don’t need to know the whole story.
